Beyond Grit is a first of its kind in the NBA behind the scenes documentary series. The series was conceptualized by Michael in the 2018 offseason as a way to increase fan interest after one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Getting buy-in from the organization, Beyond Grit was able to go behind the scenes during the always sensitive time of draft preparation. The series continued into Summer League with complete access from the coaching staff. Running during the regular season, the series features player’s mic’d during games which had never been done before by an NBA team’s in-house production department. Michael produces, edits, shoots, and directs each episode which often has quick turnarounds in order to hit during peak fan interest.

Prior to the 2018-2019 regular season beginning, NBA-TV ran all of the summer episodes in 2 hour blocks on their network.

Beyond Grit has been nominated for two Mid-South Emmy’s.
